The Weird Windows Show in Downtown Durham

Hey readers, some super-fun news on the fine art front. Well, now that I think of it, I'm not exactly sure that what I do qualifies as fine art. I mean, I guess you could call it that, but to me, fine art doesn’t feel quite right. Fine art feels a little stuffy, like you need to be wearing a scratchy sweater and a good pair of shoes to appreciate it. My art does not require a scratchy sweater or a good pair of shoes. In fact, I’d much prefer if you viewed it in sandals while sipping a piña colada (or whatever makes you most comfortable). So what should we call it? I think I’m just going to stick with The Beach House art collection for now. We can worry about categorizing at a later date.

Bang zoom! Right into the weeds. Nice, Bob. Very smooth... Sorry about that, readers, I got a little sidetracked trying to figure out how exactly to describe what I do. Let me start over without all the meandering. You know that stuff I do that’s kind of fine art, but that I’m referring to as The Beach House Art Collection? Yeah, well, guess what?  For all those who've been asking, "Hey, Bob, when are you going to get that stuff out of your studio and into the wild?"

My answer is, right now. Starting Friday, November 21, and ending January 2nd, you can see my stuff out there for all the world to see!

Weird Windows

I am participating in the Weird Windows show in downtown Durham. I know! How awesome is that? The kickoff was Friday, November 21st, and yes, it was awesome! Was I nervous? Of course, I was. It’s the first time I’ve really displayed the new stuff in public, so yeah, there’s that, but everyone was so cool and so great to work with, and any jitters I had about sharing quickly dissipated. So now that I’ve shared my work with downtown Durham, I'm super excited to share it with you, kind readers. I'm super excited to begin this long-overdue new phase in my career, but I’m getting a little ahead of myself. For those of you who haven’t been following my journey on social media, here’s a quick recap:

A few months ago, at the very first meet-up of my new art group…

What…Why are you all staring at me like that?

I didn’t tell you about the new art group? Oh wow. My bad, looks like we’ve got some catching up to do. You'd better pull up a chair because this is going to take a minute...

Remember how I’ve been talking about starting an art group. Well, I finally did it. I started a new group with a few of my favorite, super-talented artists. Our first few meetings have been great and only make me wish I had done this years ago. One of the highlights was a call for the Weird Windows show in Durham. It seemed like a match made in heaven, so with encouragement from the new group, I tossed my hat in the ring and was selected to participate.

The Premice

The premise is such a fun idea. Each artist selects a holiday theme and decorates their window space accordingly (think Macy's windows). For anyone interested, here's a link: Weird Windows. It will give you all the info, including where each window is located, an introduction to each artist, and the themes they've chosen. Now listen readers, I've been following the other artists over on their socials, and I am blown away by the talent.Make sure you check them out and I promise you, you will now be disappointed.

My theme?

It's been a busy time getting all this art ready, and I’m happy to have all the heavy lifting behind me. I chose, Holiday under the Sea as my theme. If you've been following me for any amount of time, you'll know that many of my paintings reflect an underwater theme, and now, for the first time, they will be displayed together as a collection.

One last thing before I sign off for the week. I'd like to take a quick moment to thank everyone who so generously gave their time and space to make this all happen. I’m proud and honored to be a part of the Durham art scene. So, thank you to everyone involved in making this a reality.
